Finance, technology, safety, sustainability and HR teams that ensure everything is done the right way for our people, our business and the planet.įinally there is my team at Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery who entertain, educate and hopefully sell a few bottles. The logistics and procurement teams that get everything in the right place, no mean feat in this day and age. You have to admit that Aberfeldy is particularly fantastic! Over the years I've sold whisky to lots of collectors who don't drink, they buy whisky because they love the presentation. The brand teams, NPD teams and bottling teams who create beautiful packaging. Then the warehousing, blending and whisky prep team who don't just assemble the product, they use their experience and intuition to match the perfect casks, ageing them for just the right time to show a new side to our spirit. This means that even though we are global, we are still crafted. We talk about the distillery operators a lot at Aberfeldy, not just their knowledge and experience but also the passion to create great spirit. I love new whisky release day, a chance to reflect on all the people who contribute to getting a product created. #visitscotland #bacardilife #scottishtourism #visitaberfeldy #STIC22 Thanks to everyone who stopped to chat (or dance Angela Dineen). In fact, my conference buzzwords were "opportunity", "wellness" and "people"Īs an industry we have so much to be proud of, and my small bit has a lot to look forward to in the next 12 months. The running joke was that the conference buzzwords were "unprecedented", "challenge" and "crisis". In particular quality time to dream about where we will take Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery with the leadership team of Jay Basson, Eleanor M. I genuinely refer back to these throughout the year but the real value is the networking with friends old and new. This week I took a day and a half out for the Scottish National Tourism Conference organised by The Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA), ASVA: Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions and HIT Scotland also VisitScotlandĢ5 pages of notes in my jotter covering industry insights, future trends, best practice, sustainability, people and resilience. If you'd like to sponsor me then you can do so here: This is in honour of Olivia but also to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. On the way to the hospital I signed up for Etape Loch Ness, a 66 mile bike ride including a mountain. In the meantime, as I now have 3 daughters, I thought I'd need a good excuse to get out of the house and stay fit. Despite the pandemic, my team at the distillery is thriving and I'm looking forward to celebrating more success when I return on Monday. None of this could have happened without the support from Bacardi, where Family really does come first. That half decade has included 2 daughters arriving, some great family trips across Scotland in our motorhome and a huge change in my work/home balance. Finishing the first bit of paternity leave lets me reflect on how much has happened professionally and personally over the last 5 years. Work has taken a backseat as I get to know my latest daughter - Olivia was born on 2nd Feb.
